DID YOU KNOW THAT?

Unlike most liquids, water expands when it freezes, and turns into ice.

This means that ice has a lower density (mass per unit volume) than liquid water. Therefore ice floats on water and as temperature of air fall below freezing, water bodies freeze from top down instead of from bottom up. Without this property, lakes and streams in cold climates would freeze solid and most of their aquatic life could not exist.

And did you know that 97% of the earth's water is in the seas and oceans (This is salty water containing more than 5000 mg/l of sodium chloride, otherwise known as salt.

Only 3% of water content on the earth is fresh water ( water containing less than 500 mg/l of salt.
2.997% of the fresh water is locked up in ice.

Only 0.003% is readily accessible water. This can be found in the soil moisture, ground water, surface water (lakes and streams) and water vapour.

Do you now appreciate water management???
